About the Book

OrendaAmazonB&NGoodreads

Join forces with a parallel universe.

Dark forces, magical creatures, and the world Lil thought she knew collide when a dream transports her to the strange world of Orenda. Stunned and terrified, Lil comes face to face with her doppelganger, Willow, who possesses the ability to travel between the two worlds. Everything Lil knows logically says that Orenda can’t exist, but a small clue may be proof that it was more than an ordinary dream. With the threat of her sister in danger, Lil crosses dimensions but it may cost her even more than she bargained for.

A sword wielding girl, the eternal suit, and a parallel universe come together in this action-packed Young Adult fantasy adventure that will keep readers of all ages turning the pages. Orenda is the first novel in the Orenda series.

Emilie's Evaluation

After waking up from a realistic dream of another land just like hers, Lil Porter’s life is turned upside down. Suddenly, a boy named Rawlie pulls Lil from her class and thrusts her into Orenda, the world from her dream. Orenda is nothing like her world, despite the similarities; people have powers and the world is on the brink of destruction at the hands of Eilith, an evil sorceress who opened Pandora’s box. Lil’s world is being threatened if she can’t help her new friends gain some sort of an upper hand and rescue her doppleganger and the gate keeper between worlds, Willow. What Lil doesn’t know is that there is more to the story than she ever expected.

There were some grammar errors. They didn’t impede the reading experience much, however.

I would recommend Orenda to fans of young adult stories of the fantasy and paranormal variety. It’s suitable for nearly all readers of chapter books.

Overall, I enjoyed this read. While the characters felt a little shallow, the world and story did not. Orenda is a world described in stunning detail. In between my chances to read, I found myself daydreaming about pink sunlight, dragons, distant magical springs, and fairies. The story unfolded a bit fast for me, but I did enjoy the many twists and turns there were. This is my second read from this author and I fully intend to pick up another when I have the chance.

I give Orenda 4 out of 5 pandas!

About the Book

Fractured-DreamAmazonB&NGoodreads

Have you ever wondered where fairytales go once they’re created?

It’s been eight years since Story Sparks last had a dream. Now they’re back, tormenting her as nightmares she can’t remember upon waking. The black waters of Lake Sandeen, where her Uncle Peter disappeared decades before, may hold the secret to Story’s hidden memories, or a truth she’d rather not know. On a bright summer afternoon, Story and her two best friends, Elliott and Adam, take a hike to the lake, where they dive into the cool water and never reemerge. What they find is beyond anything they’ve ever imagined could be possible, a world where dangers lurk in the form of Big Bad Wolves, living Nightmares and meddlesome witches and gods.

Now Story must remember who she really is and somehow stop two worlds from ultimate annihilation, all while trying not to be too distracted by the inexplicable pull she feels toward a certain dark-eyed traveler who seems to have secrets of his own. The fates of the worlds are counting on her.

Emilie's Evaluation

Fractured Dream begins with Story Sparks, a young woman with holes in her memories and the best two friends anyone could ever ask for. When a hiking trip with Adam and Elliott leads her to Sandeen Lake, her life gets turned upside down and she must remember who she is. Along the way, she will make new friends as well as friends we all remember in order to win a war of her own creation and save Tressla and the entire world as she knows it.

There were very little, if any spelling and grammar errors. The plot unraveled fluidly, making this an easy read through and through.

I would recommend this story to fans of young adult fantasy and paranormal novels and fairytales. There are some adult situations, but I found that this read is suitable for older or more mature teens as well as adults.

Overall, I fell in love with Fractured Dream. From beginning to end I was lost in a fairytale of epic proportions and the only thing I hated was finishing the book and saying goodbye to the characters (for now). I adored the characters and the beautiful imagery each new chapter brought, as well as the quirky humor and throwbacks to the fairytales my mother told me when I was a little girl. With each new piece of the story, I felt like a little kid again, staying up all night to read what happens next. This gem is bound to draw its readers in and leave them hooked from start to finish on a literary roller coaster they will want to read again and again and again. Mrs. Randall is exceptionally talented and her imagination is absolutely delightful. She has earned herself two thumbs up from me along with a permanent place on my bookshelf. I can’t wait until book two is released so I can read more about the characters and the world I have come to love.

Dead Girl WalkingAmazonB&NGoodreads

Forget everything you know about grim reapers.

Princess Ophelia Dacre sneaks out of the castle to visit her boyfriend in secret. A perfect night cut short when she’s brutally murdered.

Ophelia is given the rare chance to become a grim reaper. She must become Leila Bele, cut ties with her old life, and follow the rules of the reapers. Her greatest adventure begins with death.

Emilie's Evaluation

Dead Girl Walking is the story of Opelia Dacre, a young princess in line for the thrown. She is is in love with a peasant and spends her nights by his side as Leila. She is killed, miraculously, on one such night and whisked away to the Asylum where she will meet her fellow reapers and learn the ropes. She is now Leila Bele, a new grim reaper out on an adventure, but her adventure requires her to let go of her past and embrace her future.

The plot flowed beautifully from beginning to end with few grammar and spelling mistakes.

I would recommend this story to young adults and adults alike who enjoy a fun and adventurous paranormal fantasy.

Overall, I adored this read. It was fun, spunky, and sweet. The characters were charming, the imagery was lovely, and the overall feel of the read was enjoyable. I wished the story would go on and on and a little sad to see it end, but I can’t wait for the sequel. Ruth Silver has earned herself a place on my bookshelf with Dead Girl Walking and I am thrilled to be reading another of her works very soon.

Emilie’s Review of Along the Watchtower by David Litwack

51UpJCTM2hLAmazonAmazon UKB&NGoodreads

Along the Watchtower is the story of Lt. Freddie Williams, a veteran of the war in Iraq that survived an explosion from an IED that rendered him physically unable to return to war. He finds himself in the VA hospital in New England where he is assigned staff that help him to regain use of his leg. Becky, his physical therapist, is more interested in giving him a reason to keep living. What Freddie tells nobody, though, is that at night, he dreams of protecting the kingdom of Stormwind from the Horde as a noble prince in the fictional land of Azeroth, made famous by the MMORPG World of Warcraft. He must overcome his own weaknesses and find his own strengths both in and out of his dreams in order to recover. In doing so, he must choose whether or not to let love in as his relationship with Becky moves to the next level.

There were some minor spelling and grammar errors, but none that impede the pace of reading.

I would recommend this story to lovers of fantasy and those looking for a nice heartfelt read.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. The character was actually quite relatable, even though I played Horde when I played World of Warcraft. The story was very well thought-out and written beautifully. I loved the pacing and the way the romance between Becky and Freddie progressed. I’ve never liked novels about the war, but this story was unique and written in a way I could enjoy it. This was my very first read from Mr. Litwack and it most definitely will not be my last. He has a brilliant ability to tell an enchanting tale seemingly effortlessly and I look forward to reading more of his work.

Emilie’s Review of Abomination by S. Cu’Anam Policar

18744420AmazonSmashwordsGoodreads

Abomination is the story of Katalina DarkLaw, a lupirian born into a corrupt pack who is forced into a life of pain and suffering. Accused of killing a beta wolf from her own pack, she is thrust into the harsh wilds of Xosha with a bounty on her head. She undergoes several horrific transformations at the hands of those who wish to make her their weapon, including that of a howler. Chaos seeks her at every turn as she evolves into a monster even she fears. When she meets Silver Von’Dyre and his merry band of misfits however, her life takes a turn for the better. Love and mateship await her in the arms of the foul-mouthed, witty alpha and she is given a gift she never expected – acceptance.

There were very few, if any, spelling and grammar mistakes and the story kept pace from beginning to end.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy and romance. While there are themes that some readers may find disturbing, the story itself is intended for mature readers above the age of 18.

Overall, I loved this book. The story is part of the miraculous Xosha books built in a world that is very well thought out and described in a way that I felt like I was seeing the sights from the characters’ eyes. True to S. Cu’Anam’s style, the characters are witty and relatable and humor is found around every corner. Her talent as an author continues to blossom wonderfully and her future as an author is insanely bright. I am eagerly anticipating her next release in this stunning storyline, ‘The Diamond Isles’.

Emilie’s Review of The Rise of Xosha by S. Cu’Anam Policar

61gfEulRIMLAmazonAmazon UKB&NSmashwordsGoodreads

The Rise of Xosha is the story of the reclaiming of Xosha by the Dragon race. In the story, Oceanus and his siblings, Pyre and Jade, have fled their homeland for Xosha under the guidance of Rose, the mysterious white dragon who has been picked on since she was young. While Rose begins fulfilling the prophecy with the help of the remaining dragons, Jade rebels under the pressure of the demon queen. Betrayal, romance, and death await the unsuspecting dragons as well as new friends and enemies.

I found some grammar and spelling mistakes while reading, but none of them managed to obstruct the flow of the story.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good fantasy novel. There are many elements to the story that I feel would also draw in readers of other similar genres as well.

Overall, I enjoyed this book immensely. Once I picked it up, I didn’t put it down, and I managed to finish it in a single sitting. The characters are unique and grow as the story progresses in a way that they feel familiar and the world is built and describes in beautifully vivid detail. I found it incredibly easy to visualize everything as it happened. S. Cu’Anam Policar has a raw talent that is refreshing and witty. For being a debut novel, The Rise of Xosha clearly displays her abilities to write a story so enthralling that you’ll be wishing it never ended.

Emilie’s Review of Forever Fae by L.P. Dover

91Kmjo4OL5L._SL1500_AmazonAmazon UKB&NSmashwordsGoodreads

Forever Fae tells the story of Calista, the 21-year-old fae princess of the Summer Court. The Prophecy tells of ‘The Four’ who will save the fae world from the evil of the Dark Sorcerer and as fate would have it, Calista is one of ‘The Four’. When she meets Ryder, the prince of the Winter Court at her Guardian ceremony, her life is turned upside down. The very next day, she is kidnapped by the Dark Sorcerer Alasdair’s minions and Ryder and Calista’s gaurdian Merrick must save her before Alisdair can take her power and prevent the Prophecy from taking place.

There are a few issues with the timeline that I had as well as the awkward sex at the end of the story, but the story still unfolded flawlessly.

I would recommend this story to anyone who enjoys the paranormal/fantasy genres and to anyone who would enjoy a fast-paced romance story.

Overall, the story was amazing. I found myself mesmerized by the characters and the beautiful world Mrs. Dover created. I didn’t want to put the book down and I never wanted it to end. I enjoyed reading it immensely! I can’t wait to start reading Betrayals of Spring! Mrs. Dover’s gift with storytelling is promising and I can see myself getting lost in the pages of her tales for many years to come.
