About the Author

KM Randall

As a girl, K.M. always wished she’d suddenly come into magical powers or cross over into a Faerie circle. Although that has yet to happen, she instead lives vicariously through the characters she creates in writing fantasy and delving into the paranormal. When K.M. is not busy writing her next novel, she is the editor-in-chief of a blog covering the media industry, as well as an editor with Booktrope Publishing. She has a master’s degree in journalism from Syracuse University and a bachelor’s degree in English-Lit from Nazareth College of Rochester. K.M. lives in Upstate New York’s Finger Lakes region with her husband and her extremely energetic little boy. Fractured Dream is her first novel.

About the Book

Have you ever wondered where fairytales go once they’re created?

It’s been eight years since Story Sparks last had a dream. Now they’re back, tormenting her as nightmares she can’t remember upon waking. The black waters of Lake Sandeen, where her Uncle Peter disappeared decades before, may hold the secret to Story’s hidden memories, or a truth she’d rather not know. On a bright summer afternoon, Story and her two best friends, Elliott and Adam, take a hike to the lake, where they dive into the cool water and never reemerge. What they find is beyond anything they’ve ever imagined could be possible, a world where dangers lurk in the form of Big Bad Wolves, living Nightmares and meddlesome witches and gods.

Now Story must remember who she really is and somehow stop two worlds from ultimate annihilation, all while trying not to be too distracted by the inexplicable pull she feels toward a certain dark-eyed traveler who seems to have secrets of his own. The fates of the worlds are counting on her.

Emilie's Evaluation

Fractured Dream begins with Story Sparks, a young woman with holes in her memories and the best two friends anyone could ever ask for. When a hiking trip with Adam and Elliott leads her to Sandeen Lake, her life gets turned upside down and she must remember who she is. Along the way, she will make new friends as well as friends we all remember in order to win a war of her own creation and save Tressla and the entire world as she knows it.

There were very little, if any spelling and grammar errors. The plot unraveled fluidly, making this an easy read through and through.

I would recommend this story to fans of young adult fantasy and paranormal novels and fairytales. There are some adult situations, but I found that this read is suitable for older or more mature teens as well as adults.

Overall, I fell in love with Fractured Dream. From beginning to end I was lost in a fairytale of epic proportions and the only thing I hated was finishing the book and saying goodbye to the characters (for now). I adored the characters and the beautiful imagery each new chapter brought, as well as the quirky humor and throwbacks to the fairytales my mother told me when I was a little girl. With each new piece of the story, I felt like a little kid again, staying up all night to read what happens next. This gem is bound to draw its readers in and leave them hooked from start to finish on a literary roller coaster they will want to read again and again and again. Mrs. Randall is exceptionally talented and her imagination is absolutely delightful. She has earned herself two thumbs up from me along with a permanent place on my bookshelf. I can’t wait until book two is released so I can read more about the characters and the world I have come to love.

I give Fractured Dream 5 out of 5 pandas!

Ophelia is given the rare chance to become a grim reaper. She must become Leila Bele, cut ties with her old life, and follow the rules of the reapers. Her greatest adventure begins with death.

Emilie's Evaluation

Dead Girl Walking is the story of Opelia Dacre, a young princess in line for the thrown. She is is in love with a peasant and spends her nights by his side as Leila. She is killed, miraculously, on one such night and whisked away to the Asylum where she will meet her fellow reapers and learn the ropes. She is now Leila Bele, a new grim reaper out on an adventure, but her adventure requires her to let go of her past and embrace her future.

The plot flowed beautifully from beginning to end with few grammar and spelling mistakes.

I would recommend this story to young adults and adults alike who enjoy a fun and adventurous paranormal fantasy.

Overall, I adored this read. It was fun, spunky, and sweet. The characters were charming, the imagery was lovely, and the overall feel of the read was enjoyable. I wished the story would go on and on and a little sad to see it end, but I can’t wait for the sequel. Ruth Silver has earned herself a place on my bookshelf with Dead Girl Walking and I am thrilled to be reading another of her works very soon.

Candace Bristol has always been obsessed with comic books, but in a world where the nightly news often mirrors these inked stories, her dreams of becoming a real superhero could actually come true. After being rescued by members of the government’s AdvaNced Genetic EvoLution (ANGEL) Project four years ago, getting recruited for this elite team is all she’s wanted.

Now 18, she’s finally reached her goal after years of study and physical training, but little could have prepared her for life as a genetic experiment. As though coming to terms with her new ability to manipulate water isn’t tough enough, she never expected to be swept off her feet by one of her fellow recruits.

With genetic alteration, the threat of physical and mental instability hangs over every superhero like a shadow. When one of their own tumbles over the edge of madness, Candace will have to choose between protecting the world, and saving the one who holds her heart.

Emilie's Evaluation

Evolution: ANGEL is the story of Candace Bristol, a young 18-year-old girl whose dreams of joining the newest military branch, the ANGELs are finally realized after being rescued by the modern day superheroes four years beforehand. When she is finally accepted, she is whisked away to California to begin testing and training. It is here she meets back up with her cousin, Gabe, who tries to help prepare her for what she is going to endure as she goes through her treatments to unlock her powers. What she isn’t prepared for is Adrian, a guy who is perfect for her in every way. All seems well in her life until her final test. Will she make the right decision or lose it all?

The copy I received was an advance reader’s copy (ARC) and as such, I cannot vouch for the grammatical correctness of the story.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys sci-fi, fantasy, or paranormal romance. There are sexual situations, so this book is definitely intended for mature audiences.

Overall, I am simply floored. While reading this story, I was completely hooked. It haunted my dreams and subconscious like an addiction and I spent a few nights awake until my eyes hurt, wanting nothing more than to live another moment in the world Ms. Huchton created. I fell in love with the characters so fully that their troubles felt like my own. The plot is carried out so seamlessly and without flaws that I almost pictured everything as a viewer would a movie. This was my very first read from this incredibly talented author and I have made a vow to myself that it will not be the last. I am positively anxious for the second book to be released. It takes something special to make me feel at home in the pages of a story, but she has certainly achieved it with her relatable characters and comic book style imagery.

Emilie’s Review of Along the Watchtower by David Litwack

51UpJCTM2hLAmazonAmazon UKB&NGoodreads

Along the Watchtower is the story of Lt. Freddie Williams, a veteran of the war in Iraq that survived an explosion from an IED that rendered him physically unable to return to war. He finds himself in the VA hospital in New England where he is assigned staff that help him to regain use of his leg. Becky, his physical therapist, is more interested in giving him a reason to keep living. What Freddie tells nobody, though, is that at night, he dreams of protecting the kingdom of Stormwind from the Horde as a noble prince in the fictional land of Azeroth, made famous by the MMORPG World of Warcraft. He must overcome his own weaknesses and find his own strengths both in and out of his dreams in order to recover. In doing so, he must choose whether or not to let love in as his relationship with Becky moves to the next level.

There were some minor spelling and grammar errors, but none that impede the pace of reading.

I would recommend this story to lovers of fantasy and those looking for a nice heartfelt read.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. The character was actually quite relatable, even though I played Horde when I played World of Warcraft. The story was very well thought-out and written beautifully. I loved the pacing and the way the romance between Becky and Freddie progressed. I’ve never liked novels about the war, but this story was unique and written in a way I could enjoy it. This was my very first read from Mr. Litwack and it most definitely will not be my last. He has a brilliant ability to tell an enchanting tale seemingly effortlessly and I look forward to reading more of his work.

I give Along the Watchtower 4 out of 5 pandas!

It started with Death and Creation. It ended with death.

A young woman’s fate entangled with the fate of the most unlikely of men. Recent college grad Mackenzie Blake finds herself in a unique predicament when her grandfather tells her that she bears the power of a fate. Anything she writes will come to pass. Learning about her family and her past, she soon finds herself on the run from all sorts of creatures and people including a handsome, charming man by the name of Father Gabriel Vella.

What happens when a priest who fails to kill a heretic meets a young woman desperate to survive? What happens when the supernatural collides with the real and the two pair up? Can the two of them survive when the rest of the world is against them?

“Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned, it’s been a few months since my last confession.” Gabriel sat down next to Jean-Luc in the pews and made the sign of the cross. Usually this was done in a confessional but Gabriel hated being in those small confined places.

“No need to be so formal Gabriel, it’s just us.” Jean-Luc looked at Gabriel, who shook his head.

“It’s still a confession,” Gabriel sighed deeply pulling his rosary out of his pocket and lowered his head as if he was praying.

“Whenever you’re ready.” Jean-Luc leaned back in the pew waiting. He knew confession was hard for Gabriel and that he was the only one he trusted with it.

Gabriel kept silent as his mind tried to wrap around why he was here. The woman, that was his reason, he couldn’t get her out of his head and his body had started to make demands from him. Demands he had tried so desperately to get rid of when he first became a priest. He was obviously frustrated as he stood up in what could have appeared to be annoyance.

“God Damn it, Jean-Luc!” Gabriel leaned against a pew and clenched his jaw. He made the sign of the cross over his chest after realizing he had just used to the Lord’s name in vain, something he’s never done before. His irritation had to do with his lack of sleep in which his mind was constantly working to grasp at his own failure. It should have been a simple task given to him by God, kill the woman, and fulfill God’s work. Now he was living with a sense of dread constantly looming over him. “I failed, He asked me to kill her and I failed.”

“You’re not a killer, Gabriel.” Though there was shock apparent in Jean-Luc’s voice, he recovered and he placed his hand on his friend’s shoulder. Gabriel leaned forward on his hands and let out a deep breath. Maybe Jean-Luc was right, maybe Gabriel wasn’t a killer, but that didn’t stop him from feeling the weight of his failure. He looked up to the cross that hung above the alter and sighed deeply. He turned to face his friend and Jean-Luc’s hand slide off his shoulder “There’s more?”

“I had the knife in my hand, and it was pressed to her throat.” Gabriel looked down at his hands; he could still feel the knife in his hand, and he could still feel the weight of her shoulder under his palm. “All I had to do was push the blade into her neck and she would have been gone, but I couldn’t do it…. I looked down at her and I just… I couldn’t.”

“Why?” It was a simple question. A question any priest would ask if they were in Jean-Luc’s position, but it was a question Gabriel didn’t know if he had the answer too. He sat down on in the pew and folded his hands in his lap and closed his eyes as he bowed his head.

“I…” Gabriel bit down on his bottom lip as he thought about how to put it. “I think I care about her.”

“What do you mean?”

“I told you about my dream and what happened in my room?” Gabriel looked at Jean-Luc, who nodded and sat next to him. Gabriel sighed deeply before speaking again. “I wanted to kiss her again, I wanted to press her to my bed and feel her underneath me. I wanted to feel her bare skin under my fingers, I’ve never… Jean-Luc, in all of my life, even before I joined the priesthood, I have never felt like this.”

“Do you love her?” Jean-Luc asked as he glanced at him.

“Love?” Gabriel shook his head, “no, I think it’s lust, but I … I won’t break my vows just to find out. So,” he paused as he looked down at his hands. “What do I do?”

“That, my friend, is between you and God.” Jean-Luc clapped his hand on Gabriel’s back, then they sat in silence.
